Joey Massie, a Waynesville native, joined Smoky Mountain Housing Partnership as Construction Supervisor in 2020. His 35 years experience in home construction and background in leading volunteer work at Habitat for Humanity make him well suited to the role.
Massie estimates costs, designs and drafts, oversees construction projects, and works with homeowners in the SMHP self-help program.
“What I love about affordable housing is the idea that we actually make a difference in people’s lives” says Massie. “We try to help make available one of the most necessary of human needs, shelter. I think we do a good job in that effort and I am very thankful to be a part of it.”
Massie spent five years at Habitat for Humanity, and says the experience changed him for the better. “Homeowners and awesome, unforgettable volunteers putting in sweat equity to make the dreams of lifetimes come true. I was so fortunate to have been a part of that.”
