Volunteer Spotlight: Savannah Vining

Savannah Vining, is a recent graduate of Western Carolina University, is investing her professional time in grant writing for SMHP and Mountain Projects, and we couldn’t be happier to have her.

An English major with a minor in Psychology and a Professional Writing concentration at Western, she’s now working on a Masters of Public Affairs. A Winston-Salem native, she and her husband Craig and son Sebastian live in Sylva.

“I’m invested in the idea of helping people,” says Savannah. “Doing that through grant writing is my current path. Whether it’s affordable housing, Head Start, animal welfare organizations or downtown revitalization projects, I’m proud to help and hope others will, too.”

SMHP Executive Director Heather Boyd says she’s grateful for Savannah’s help. “We love working with Savannah and feel blessed that she selected our organization as a place to hone her skills. She’s been able to assemble several important grant applications for us that are increasing our capacity to serve the community. Thank you!”
